One of my many passions, other than writing, is playing video games. Being an avid video game fan, I always found myself buying fighting games, most notably RPGs (Roleplaying Games) and Fighting games. Super Smash Bros. Is a wonderful game to buy if you want to have fun!

Fighting games are one of the founding genres of video games. Opponents are pitted against each other to decide who is left standing through utilization of combos, special attacks and special moves. Many famous titles such as Tekken, Street Fighter, and Mortal Kombat dominated the fighting genre. However, many know about the unorthodox fighting game series called Super Smash Bros., which spanned almost two decades of extremely revolutionary games along with several sponsored tournaments, starting with the first game in the series Super Smash Bros. for the Nintendo 64 in 1999 all the way to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate in 2018, This adrenaline-rushing, action-packed fighting game has basked us in countless hours of fun. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is the latest rendition to the already popular franchise. Released on December 7th of 2018, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is still the hot topic of fighting games to this day. There are many welcome features that sets it apart from other fighting games, which keeps people hooked to it with exhilaration.

For instance, unlike most fighting games, Super Smash Bros. doesn’t use health meters. It takes the contrary of traditional fighting games and flips it on its head--Becoming unconventional with the use of percentages. Instead of dumbing down the opponent’s health meter to zero, one must attack the opponent to accumulate enough percentage--because the more percent the opponent has, the easier they are to launch off the stage-which is called a KO when launched far enough. Compared to other conventional fighting games, this adds another layer of uniqueness that sets itself apart from the typical aspects of fighting games. Many of its differences, compared to traditional fighting games include the use of items that add to the discord and cacophony of a match, and the ability to support up to a whopping eight players in a match--Adding to the fun and unpredictability of a match are items thrown from all cardinal directions and players being launched offstage at once resulting in more than one KO. Those who like a change in mechanics would favor this game highly.

Another great aspect of this game is the fanservice. As a party game that anyone can play with their friends, this game features a myriad of famous video game characters, from the titular head of Nintendo history’s Mario, the valiant Hero of Time’s Link, to even the face of the spur of the renowned RPG (Role Playing Games) Final Fantasy's Cloud Strife. This game would answer to anyone’s wish of playing their favorite characters in gaming history. There are over 78 characters in the game, most of which appeared from previous games of the series, to newcomers that made their debut in the game--and even purchased DLC (Downloadable Content) that has differing, unique movesets and matchups (odds of a character dominating another due to having stronger tools than them), many diverse players can join the fray with the character they admire. In turn, Variety is another aspect of this game that keeps it alive. However, we have yet to scratch the surface of why this game is well loved.

There is never a shortage of what to do. There are a variety of modes to choose from. There is Classic Mode, which is an arcade mode, where you choose a character to use throughout a slew of objective. Have opponents that block your path? Defeat them in battle by KOing them off the screen. You need to get to the other side of the stage? Make your way there within a time limit and a black hole that will suck you in. This mode has its rewards, such as unlocking characters, increasing one’s highest scores for each character, and obtaining prizes such as stickers and music tracks. One can customize a caricature of themselves to use in the game called Miis, giving them many moves to their liking. There is also a mode called Mob Smash--which is all about the survival of the fittest. How long can you last against an army of fighters? For video game completionists, this is a treasure trove of fun and replayability. There are more modes to speak of, such as the story mode-driven World of Light, but for the sake of this review, I will leave at one of the most addictive modes of all.

Online mode is what sells this game. In this mode, Players can either fight others all around the world to test their tact, or unwind in a phenomenon called taunt parties--a match where instead of fighting against other players, they would unwind and hang out through the use of taunting and playing around until time runs out. Many players populate online to burn time.

It is not possible for people to become bored with this game; there are a million things to experience and do. For those who like diversity in a game. This is the epitome of it. Super Smash Bros., will and always be a fantastic, unique and elating for players who like anomalies to fighting games--or a party game for a as well as video game series that is a grand selling point of Nintendo. Pick it up along with a Nintendo Switch, and it will not disappoint.
